Equity and Excellence

Universal Literacy for ALL – By June 2020, all students will be reading on grade level by the end of second grade. This year, six of our staff members will be trained in Reading Rescue. Reading Rescue is a daily, one-on-one, 30 minute literacy intervention for elementary students, and a professional development program for school staff members. Students in first and second as well as any other student’s reading below a Level M will receive additional support in reading, writing, and speaking from a trained Reading Rescue Instructor. Our staff will go through a two-year professional development sequence preparing them to provide skilled intervention that teaches below-grade level students how to read and write.

Algebra for ALL – By June 2019, all teachers will be engaged in professional development around fluency, mathematical discourse and inquiry to improve math instruction. 5th grade will also be participating in a departmentalization model where teachers attend targeted professional development in their content area. Research shows that departmentalization enables us to deepen the expertise of teachers while improving outcomes for students.

Computer Science for ALL – By June 2019, every student in grades 3-5 will receive computer science education in the form of a 7 week club. Over the next 2 years, every student in grades K-5 will receive weekly computer science lessons. It is our hope that over the next 5 years, classroom teachers will receive more professional development allowing them to integrate computer science into all content areas.
